Montieri lies in one of the less popultated areas of Italy in the hills between Siena and the coast.  One kilometer from the village on the slopes of the "Poggio di Montieri“,  you will find Hotel Prategiano.  From here, there is a fantastic view over the seemingly endless hills of Maremma Toscana. It is a true paradise for those who love walking amongst beautiful nature. The territory is criss-crossed by a dense network of well-signed country lanes and pathways. Below are three examples of hiking trips:

Walking tour "Around the Poggio di Montieri": start at the hotel, duration 3 hours, distance 8 km, height: 200 meters: This trekking path leads uphill through a chestnut wood to the first view point, where you will enjoy a fantastic sight of the landscape towards Siena and the coast around Grosseto. Unspoiled, rough mountainous landscapes and views are the highlights of this walking tour.

 

Walking route "Le Cornate": Start in: Gerfalco, 5 km from the hotel, duration 3 hours,  distance 8 km, height 500 meters. After visiting the picturesque medieval village of Gerfalco you will walk up a small path to the ridge of the "Cornate". During most of the trekking tour you will have a nice view of the coast and the island of Elba. In former centuries these mountain slopes were populated and cultivated. Since then, rare plants have re-claimed the landscape and a new ecological balance has been established. You will pass by a former famous quarry of marble that provided the marble for the Cathedral of Siena.

 

Trekking "Montemurlo": start at the hotel, duration 4 hours, distance 10 km, height 400 meters. You will walk from Montieri downhill to the chapel "Madonna dei Castani". In the valley, the landscape changes from chestnut and oak tree woods to meadows, which are used for extensive herding. Then, you will start walking uphill to return to our agriturismo in the hills of Tuscany .
